Susquehannock Trail Thru Hike: A Journey Through Nature's Wonders and Spooky Legends
I awoke to a crisp morning, the sun's rays filtering through the trees, and a sense of excitement filled me. The first night of my Susquehannock Trail thru hike had been a success, with my clothes dry and no bugs to bother me. I took a moment to appreciate the beauty of my surroundings, the sound of birdsong filling the air. As I sipped my morning tea, I couldn't help but feel a sense of accomplishment. The trail had been challenging, but the rewards were worth it.
The Susquehannock Trail is a 60-mile trek through the heart of Pennsylvania's wilderness, and I was determined to make the most of it. My goal was to complete the hike in two days, and I was well on my way. As I continued on the trail, I couldn't help but notice the dense hemlock trees, the hunting lodges, and the good camp sites along the way. But my attention was soon drawn to the rare Jacob's Ladder flowers, a sight that made me feel like I was in a fairy tale.
As I hiked further, I couldn't help but feel a sense of awe at the beauty of nature. The trail wound downwards through wetlands, and I found myself in Ole Bull State Park, a hidden gem in the wilderness. But my thoughts soon turned to the challenge of my leg, which was starting to ache from the tendonitis that had been plaguing me for some time. I found myself wishing I had brought my waterproof mid-top shoes, but I pressed on, determined to complete the hike.
One of the most surprising things about the trail was the use of switchbacks, a rare sight in the eastern United States. As I hiked through the hardwoods and pine forests, I couldn't help but feel a sense of wonder at the beauty of the surrounding landscape. But my thoughts soon turned to the legend of the 'Hide-Behinds', a spooky creature that haunts the woods of north-central Pennsylvania.
According to the STS Guidebook, the Hide-Behinds are a mysterious species that hides behind things to avoid being seen. I couldn't help but feel a sense of trepidation as I hiked through Spook Hollow, a part of the trail that is said to be haunted by these creatures. But I pressed on, determined to complete the hike.
As I descended towards Morgan Hollow Shelter, I found myself making plans for the night. I was only twelve miles from Crossfork, PA, and I was determined to make it there by 1100. I thoroughly checked the shelter for any signs of the Hide-Behinds, but found none. I cooked up some dinner and hung my wet gear to dry, ready for the next day's challenges.
In my opinion, the Susquehannock Trail is a must-do for any hiker looking for a challenging and rewarding experience. The trail is filled with natural wonders and spooky legends, and the sense of accomplishment that comes with completing it is unparalleled. But it's not just the trail that makes this experience so special. It's the sense of connection to nature, the sense of adventure, and the sense of accomplishment that come with every step.
Personally, I think the Susquehannock Trail is a hidden gem in the world of hiking. It's a trail that challenges you, inspires you, and leaves you with memories that will last a lifetime. So if you're looking for a hiking adventure that will take you through nature's wonders and spooky legends, the Susquehannock Trail is the perfect choice for you.
